Barrel cradle sections are barrels that have been halved lengthways. They can be used in a number of ways but are particularly useful
in pubs and bars where they can be stood against a wall to provide an additional place to stand a few glasses. Cradles can also be used to create an
unusual bar front.
As well as being useful for standing against a wall they can be hung downwards on a wall or cross ways for decor. When used as container
tubs in specialist shops etc. they can help to create the feel of authenticity.
Before halving thee barrels are specially prepared so that they remain intact at the end of the process. Preparation work is done on the
barrel ends and additional fixings are used throughout the barrel.
Our cradles are available in a range of heights, widths and in several finishes.
Finishes
Rustic
Rustic cradles are left in the original condition of the barrel with a weathered surface and lightly rusted hoop iron.
Rustic with Black Hoops
This finish is similar to the rustic finish except the hoop iron has been painted black.
Cleaned
The cleaned finish has had the weathered surface removed from the oak leaving the almost white, untreated wood. The hoops are painted black.
You can finish the product using your own stain or varnish.
Dark Oak
To obtain this finish the cradle is prepared with a cleaned finish and a dark oak stain is then applied.
Light Varnished
To obtain this finish the cradle is prepared with a cleaned finish before applying a yacht varnish.
Dimensions are as shown in the table below but are approximate since each barrel has been individually
coopered. All hoop iron is pinned in position and the staves are stapled in order to withstand shrinkage in warm, dry environments.
