Our terracotta water feature urns are hand-made in Crete. The styles and methods used in the creation of the terracotta originate
from ancient Minoan traditions, dating back to the second millennium B.C. It is these pottery styles, tied up in nearly 4000 years of history that
are repeated today.
The standard production during the Minoan Age was of the highest order; it is this same production process that is followed today.
The clay is selected with care, purified and fired to over 1150 deg C.
Pottery production in Crete is very much a cottage industry, untouched by time it has strong continuity with its past. Crafted on a
wooden wheel, the skill of the potter is of great importance. Production is a pain staking process, involving several stages and taking up to 5 days
to produce. These are not mass manufactured products.
While these urns must be drained of water in the event of freezing weather to prevent them from bursting they are frost proof
and will withstand freezing surface water.
Each of our urns below is available in a number of sizes and each is supplied with a submersible, 240Vac pond pump. The urns may be
purchased with or without a pebble pool base.
Koronios Urns The Koronios is available in three sizes and each may be purchased with an optional pond pump and an optional pebble pool base as is shown in the photograph.
Pond pumps are mains powered submersible units with 10m of power cable. Please make your selection below. More information is available via the 'i' icons.
