There are basically two types of pumps, submersible pumps and surface mount (dry) pumps. Differences in the pumps mean that not all are suitable for a particular water butt. Submersible pumps need to be submerged in water for use and therefore must be placed inside the water butt.
If a submersible pump is to be used the access trap to the water butt needs to be large enough for the pump to pass through. The length of the outlet pipe on the Draper water butt pump means that it will not reach to the bottom of the larger water butts and tanks. The table below has been constructed to give guidance with respect to this.
